The basics

What is your game about?

Active Matter is a hardcore military online shooter for fans of tactics and realism. Here you’ll be fighting not only other people, but also strange monsters from other realities, inspired by the SCP Foundation universe. The locations are also full of anomalies, including gravitational ones, which can let you run along walls and ceilings.

The main mode is extraction raids, but there is also PvP, with more modes planned for the future. If you don’t want to fight other players, there is a dedicated PvE mode.

Can I play only solo PvE or cooperative PvE and avoid fighting other players?

Yes. We designed the game so that you can choose whichever format you are most comfortable with. However, please note that some locations are intended exclusively for PvPvE, some for PvP, and some exclusively for PvE.

To experience everything interesting that Active Matter has to offer, we recommend trying different modes. You can play solo, although this is more hardcore than playing cooperatively.

Where does the game take place?

The battles take place in fragments of reality that were once real locations on the Earth we know. At launch, there are three main biomes: Soviet laboratories on a restricted island, a quarantine zone in Central Africa, and an abandoned city on the U.S. coast.

Your base, however, is located outside ordinary reality, and new doors leading to new corners of the multiverse open regularly.

How do you plan to develop the game after release?

Release is not the end of development for us — it’s only the beginning of a much longer journey we have planned for Active Matter. We’re constantly working on new locations, weapons, monsters, game modes and events, and we plan to release several major content updates every year.

A detailed roadmap outlining our plans for the future will be published within a couple of weeks after release. In the meantime, keep an eye on the official website and our social media channels for the latest news and updates.

Is there cross-play between consoles and PC, and can I play only with people on my platform?

Yes, we have cross-platform multiplayer. On consoles, you can choose where to search for players for matches: only your platform, consoles only, or any platform.

Purchasing the game

How can I purchase the game, and which platforms is it available on?

Active Matter editions are already available on PC through Gaijin Store and Steam, as well as on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.

Which editions of the game are available for purchase?

There are currently Standard, Advanced, and Deluxe editions available for purchase. They differ in their starting selection of weapons, equipment, and in-game resources; otherwise, the content available to buyers is identical.

The Deluxe Edition on Steam also includes a digital soundtrack. Gaijin Store also offers the exclusive Elite Squad Edition, which includes one Deluxe Edition plus two Standard Edition keys for friends.

Tell me about the Elite Squad Edition.

With the Elite Squad Edition, you will receive the same in-game content as with the Deluxe Edition, plus two additional Standard Edition codes for your friends at a discount.

You can find these keys in your Gaijin Store purchase history. Your friends will need to activate them using this link: https://store.gaijin.net/activate.php

I purchased the Elite Squad Edition, gave the Standard Edition keys to my friends, and they activated them. What will happen to these bonus editions if I decide to request a refund?

In this case, the Standard Edition keys activated by your friends will be automatically deactivated.

My friend purchased the Elite Squad Edition and gave me a Standard Edition. Can I upgrade my edition myself?

Yes, you can upgrade your edition yourself in the Gaijin Store.

What should I do if I want to request a refund after purchasing the game through Gaijin Store?

You can request a refund if you have played the game for less than two hours. To do so, go to your purchase history and click the “Refund” button. The funds will be automatically returned to your Gaijin Store balance.

If you have played the game for more than two hours, a refund is not possible.

What should I do if I purchased the early version through Gaijin Store but want to play on Steam?

All players who purchased the early version of Active Matter through Gaijin Store will receive free access to the game on their Steam account. To do this, you need to link your accounts by November 23, 2026.

After linking your accounts, your progress will be transferred to Steam, and you will be able to continue playing on PC either through the Gaijin.Net launcher or through Steam, with shared progress. More information can be found in the account-linking instructions.

The edition you receive will correspond to the edition you purchased from the Gaijin Store. Please note that the previously available Premium Edition has been replaced by the more expensive and upgraded Deluxe Edition, which is what all Premium owners will receive.

Elite Squad owners will receive a Steam edition with the same bonuses for themselves, but without the additional keys. Friends who activated the additional Elite Squad keys will receive the Standard Edition.

What happens to edition content if I perform a self-wipe?

The content will be returned to your stash, with the exception of crystallised Active Matter (Prime).

Where can I buy the soundtrack?

The Active Matter soundtrack, recorded with the participation of composer Akira Yamaoka, can be purchased on Steam, either separately or as part of the Deluxe Edition. We also plan to release it on streaming platforms. Follow the news on the website for updates.
